Virtuo, New Capsule Made from Pure Tin 100% Recycled for Wine & Spirits Bottles, Combining Elegance and Durability
Rivercap, part of the Crealis Group, and a key player in the field of over-capping for wine and spirits industries, unveils its latest innovation: the “Virtuo” capsule. Made from pure tin 100% recycled, this new capsule embodies a subtle balance between aesthetics and environmental commitment, marking a step towards more sustainable packaging.
An Innovation That Combines Both Luxury and Responsibility
The name “Virtuo” takes its origin from “Virtuoso”, referring to excellence in craftsmanship, irreproachable ethics and perfect harmony between aesthetics and sustainability. Created in a single piece from recycled tin ingots of the highest purity, this single-material capsule offers unique personalization possibilities, identical to all tin capsules, thanks to embossing and debossing techniques and top-of-the-range finishes. With its depth of color and remarkable tactile qualities, “Virtuo” enhances every bottle, while meeting the durability requirements of every brand.
A Concrete Commitment to Sustainability
Beyond its elegance, “Virtuo” stands out for its exceptional environmental performance. This capsule reduces its carbon footprint by 61% (1) compared to conventional tin capsules. The recycled tin, sourced mainly from the electronics industry, has the same purity and performance qualities as virgin tin, without compromising on decoration or bottling efficiency.
A New Step in Crealis' Sustainable Strategy
With the launch of “Virtuo”, the Crealis Group reaffirms its ambition to offer ever more responsible packaging solutions, meeting the growing expectations of consumers and industry players in terms of sustainability. “Sustainability is not just a promise; it’s a concrete reality that we integrate at every stage of our value chain. Virtuo is tangible proof of this,” emphasizes Isabelle Gruard, Marketing and Communications Director of the Crealis Group.
By combining circular economy, recyclability, quality and elegance, “Virtuo” is part of Crealis’ proactive approach to a future where every detail of wine and spirits packaging contributes to a more sustainable world, without ever giving up on excellence.

New Symbiosis Foil Made Primarily from PaperMay 23, 2024
A Microbial Study Demonstrates the Protective Capacity of Capsules and Foils for Still and Sparkling Wine Against Bacteriological Contamination and Mold
More than just a purely marketing element of packaging, a scientific study demonstrates the protective role of capsules and foils on bottles of still and sparkling wine. Like any food product, wine bottles in retail areas and storage locations must ensure impeccable sanitary safety for consumers. To better understand bacteriological contamination on the necks of wine bottles, a laboratory, in collaboration with the Crealis Group—an international specialist in overcapping solutions—conducted a study on wine bottles with and without capsules or foils.
The Capsule and Foil
AN UNDISPUTED HYGIENIC SHIELD
The capsule and foil represent an effective hygienic shield against the transmission of bacteria and mold. This is the conclusion from laboratory tests commissioned by Crealis from the CSI, the European reference center for the verification and certification of material and product compliance. To compare the hygienic quality of wine bottles with and without capsules and foils, a specific protocol was applied.
The protocol conducted by CSI in 2024 specifically studied the development of pathogens such as Escherichia coli, responsible for transmitting intestinal and extra-intestinal diseases through contact, and Staphylococcus aureus, which causes acute infections easily transmitted by sneezing, and the development of mold[1]. For this, the laboratory immersed bottles with and without capsules in an environment contaminated with the mentioned bacteria and mold-causing fungi. Then, samples were taken from the necks of the bottles and the capsules to observe bacterial and mold growth. The results are clear: no bacterial or mold contamination was present on the neck of a bottle with a capsule or foil, while intense growth was recorded on bottles without capsules or foil, with widespread and abundant colonies present on the entire sampled surface.
Capsule and Foil
A GUARANTEE OF SANITARY SAFETY
The capsule and foil represent a hygienic assurance for both consumers and producers. This scientific study highlights the importance of the capsule and foil in maintaining the hygienic quality of the bottle opening. They act as a physical barrier that limits microbial contamination, similar to those that can occur during bottling, storage, distribution, or by the consumer when the bottle is exposed for sale. This contamination can occur through airborne transmission (sneezing, coughing) or direct contact (touch).
WITHOUT / WITH
No visible growth – Intense growth
“We wanted to study precisely and factually the contribution of the capsule and foil in terms of hygiene. The results show that the capsule plays a primarily functional role and establishes an essential protective hygienic barrier. In this regard, it represents the best ally for both the consumer and the producer, preventing contamination from bottling to consumption. It is not surprising that denominations such as Champagne and Prosecco have made it mandatory following the EU directive that made protection optional for sparkling wines,” commented Michele Moglia, CEO of the international Crealis Group.
ABOUT CREALIS

The Value of the Wine Capsule - Ferrari TrentoAesthetic matters in the world of wine. Overtime, capsules have acquired an increasingly important role thanks to its two functions: protective, to guarantee the integrity of the product and aesthetic, to communicate the character of a wine and to enhance the concept of a brand.
Ferrari Trento has chosen to communicate its value by working with our sister company Enoplastic and the branding agency Robiliant Associati to launch their line called MAXIMUM, that includes Trentodoc in three different versions: Brut Blanc de Blancs, Rosé and Demi-Sec.
The brand selected some common elements for the three versions: a customized pebbling which recalls the brand name thanks to the relief stamping of the initial “F”, and the red color at the top of the capsule which evokes the excellence of a well-noted brand as Ferrari Trento. Graphic elements, complemented by tactile solutions, aimed at emphasizing the distinctiveness as well as the exclusive and coordinated image of the brand.
The shades used for capsules differ according to the type of product: for Brut, high intensity Trentodoc, they selected a deep black; for Rosé, elegant and enchanting wine, a light and delicate pink; for Demi-Sec, rich and well-balanced wine, an intense purple.
The three bottles share the same “fil rouge”: a red band at the top of the capsule that recalls the same color as the brand logo. Even when the bottle is uncorked and placed in a glacette, the red band with the MAXIMUM inscription will always be clearly visible and confirms its premium identity. Among other bottles, the MAXIMUM line of Ferrari Trento will always be recognizable, drawing all the attention to itself.
Therefore, we can confirm that details make the difference. In these bottles we find a concentration of features that contribute to make the wine even more iconic. The capsule represents a sort of statement to consumers and allows the brand to show its focus on the love of beauty.
Thank you for reading,

Contributions to the Community from Maverick
Each year Maverick hosts our annual golf tournament to spend a day out on the course with our customers and vendors as we celebrate another year of business in our wonderful industry.
From this event we are very fortunate to gain funds from donations from our industry friends to be able to provide help to some very worthy organizations over the years in our community.
This year we had the pleasure of meeting with two very worthy organizations in Ukiah. Our team was able to visit with the Cancer Resource Center of Mendocino County and Plowshares to learn more about their important organizations to our community and present the director of each non-profit with a donation check in the amount of $1,000 to help each with their mission.
Plowshares works in Ukiah to provide 2 meals a day to the hungry community and helps with resources for these individuals as well as meals on wheel helping our senior community with food and a friendly hello from their driver. They have a group of dedicated volunteers that help cook, serve and drive each day to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.
The Cancer Resource Center of Mendocino County works hands on with those in our
county fighting cancer, providing resources to help take individuals to appointments, listen and interpret medical lingo that may otherwise be foreign to a person, provide groups to meet with who are going through the same things and give as much help and support as possible to those fighting cancer.
We are very thankful for these organizations in our community and that Maverick can provide assistance to them to help their noble causes.

Maverick Now Offering Digitally Printed Capsules
Do you ever wish as a company you may place a beautifully branded capsule on your bottle to finish off your packaging for the small batch of reserve wine your bottling? Maybe you are looking to change your package temporarily for a special event and would like to spruce up your capsule with artwork of the award you just recently won at a tasting competition? No matter the reason, there are numerous times throughout a brand’s life where wineries feel it may be time to make some changes, but with the costs and time involved the idea of changing becomes something that isn’t done as often as one might like.
Maverick, with the support of our ownership group Sparflex, is now able to offer custom digitally printed capsules to our customers through the Creative Digital line by Sparflex. Whether it’s a small run or a larger one, we’re here to support our customer base and provide the industry an outlet to print a wide variety of color options that are best suited for digitally printed artwork.
At the heart of Sparflexs’ innovation process and convinced that consumer markets will look toward ever more sophisticated packaging, digital printing is a qualitative response to products with special creative needs. With Creative Digital, Maverick is here to help our customers in the US and around the world with intricate designs and colorful layouts making the possibilities for an imaginatively thought out capsule endless.
