Millennial-Focused Wine Marketing: Connecting with Gen Z & Gen Y Consumers
Your Current Marketing Won't Work for Younger Wine Drinkers The generational shift in wine consumption is happening faster than most wineries are prepared to handle. According to Wine Intelligence's US Wine Consumer Trends 2025 report, millennials will surpass baby boomers as the largest wine-consuming demographic by value this year. Meanwhile, the oldest members of Gen Z (born 1997-2012) are now turning 28 and developing their own distinctive wine preferences. The problem? Most wineries continue marketing as if their primary audience is still over 55. The messaging, channels, and tactics that worked for boomers actively repel younger buyers. Let's examine what actually works when marketing to these crucial demographics. What Younger Wine Consumers Actually Want Millennial Wine Drinkers (Ages 29-44) Millennials approach wine fundamentally differently than their parents: What They Value: Transparency about production methods and ingredients Sustainable and ethical busines

Ciatti California Market Report, July 2025
Growers face decision time; inventory scrutinized by vintage California’s growing areas experienced typical warm, dry weather in June. Vineyard conditions are generally good and the growing cycle appears to be largely adhering to a normal timetable. Growers are facing decision time as to what to do with their uncontracted vineyards: Continue farming them, or mothball? The latter option has been in widespread evidence and will place a ceiling on the tonnage that crosses the scales this harvest, regardless of conditions. This month we set out our tentative crop-size expectations and – in relation to some varietals – we ask: “Will there be enough recent-vintage bulk supply if/when case-good sales stabilize (or even fall less dramatically)?” June’s grape and bulk market activity is assessed; while the grape market remains very slow, one region has experienced a – slight – uptick in bulk demand over the past two weeks. This month’s repo

An Honest Look at No-Till
It's not for the faint of heart Going no-till certainly has been picking up steam in recent years, and overall it’s a good thing. When I first got involved in viticulture back in 2010 I was living in Italy. Like a lot of Mediterranean viticultural areas, there was a tendency to disc everything all the time. If you didn’t have a barren wasteland with vines poking out of it, you weren’t a good farmer. Anything you couldn’t get to with a tractor you sprayed with herbicide. One of my first vineyard jobs in Italy was spraying glyphosate out of a backpack sprayer all spring. I felt like I was in the final scene of the Godfather! Minus the dying part. Herbicide: the new four-letter word Mentalities have shifted since then both in Europe and here in the states. All in all it’s a good shift. We’ve all seen places that have gone on for years and years using herbicide to a point where you don’t even need to spray it anymore because that soil is so d

Marketing Lessons… from Tractors?
When you think of a tractor, do you picture the sturdy, hardworking machine of the past or today’s powerful, modern marvel? For wineries, cideries, and fruit farmers, tractors symbolize the bridge between nature and craft. But how does this relate to marketing? Tractor symbolism can be marketing gold. Let’s explore this through two brands our team has worked on, illustrating how the old and new of the tractor world can inspire marketing. Built to Last: The Legacy of Road 13 In 2008, Pam & Mick Luckhurst sought to rebrand their winery, originally named Golden Mile Cellars. Our team discovered that “It’s All About The Dirt” was a core value, which became the foundation for a new brand. The heart of this brand was the tractor Mick drove through the vineyard, accompanied by his dogs. This rebrand transformed the winery into a standout on shelves and a household name for wine lovers in BC. The enduring presence of the tractor reflects its timeless appeal.
