Wine’s Rally Cry
The Marketing Behind Come Over October Hopefully, by now, you’ve seen some wineries participate in Come Over October, a new program launched to benefit the wine industry. Our industry is facing a critical shift where the cultural narrative around wine is being scrutinized. At the same time, loneliness and isolation are now at epidemic levels, and the simple act of sharing wine, which has always been a catalyst for connection, seems to be losing its place. The goal of Come Over October, launched by wine journalist Karen MacNeil and PR veterans Gino Colangelo and Kimberly Noelle Charles, is to counter these trends. The idea is simple: encourage friends, family, and colleagues to “come over” in October to share a bottle and reconnect. It’s not about fancy wine pairings or breaking the bank—just using wine as a focus to celebrate being together in an increasingly disconnected world. The wine industry, as always, adapts to challenges, and this campaign is a re

Barrel Donations from Cooperages 1912 Benefit Washington State University Viticulture & Enology Department Research and Education
NAPA, CA (Sept. 12, 2024) In an ongoing partnership with Washington State University (WSU), Cooperages 1912 recently donated 18 oak wine barrels to the Viticulture and Enology (V&E) Department. The barrels will be distributed between WSU V&E research initiatives and inclusion in the auction lots for annual Auction of Washington Wines events. Since 2017, Cooperages 1912 has donated barrels for WSU V&E’s red wine barrel fermentation experiment. The objective of the experiment is to compare either cabernet sauvignon or merlot barrel fermentation with tank fermentation and other treatments. The study allows students to evaluate the effect of red wine barrel fermentation on the composition and sensory perception of the resulting wines. This year, WSU is conducting the experiment with four different types of TW Boswell French oak barrels. “The support from Cooperages 1912 with donations of oak wine barrels has been tremendous,” said WSU Professor of Enology

More than a Scholarship - Invest in the Next Generation
Vineyard Team's Juan Nevarez Memorial Scholarship Helping Children of Wine Industry Workers Higher education is important to many students but paying for college can be challenging. The Juan Nevarez Memorial Scholarship makes higher education investments in the children of California's vineyard and winery workers. The majority of awardees are the first in their family to attend college. First-generation students have more barriers when it comes to attaining higher education – they cannot ask their parents how to navigate the system, budgets are often tight, and they can feel guilty for leaving their families. This funding helps students and their families achieve their dream of becoming a college graduate and pursuing a professional career. More Than a Scholarship Because our goal is college success, the program includes multi-year scholarships to trade, two-, or four-year schools. We also provide a dedicated mentor to support the students throughout their collegi
