Saverglass Unveils New Optimum Lightweight Wine Glass Bottle Designs

News release highlights Saverglass’s support of the wine industry’s sustainability goals with the release of high-quality lightweight glass bottle solutions.

Fairfield, CA (June 12, 2026) – Leading premium glass bottle maker and decorator Saverglass, an Orora Group company, released today its lightest weight wine bottles.

From design to logistics, structural qualities to aesthetics, wine producers have a wide range of available options in the premiumization category. Inspired by customers’ desire for a high-quality and lightweight bottle, Saverglass launches the first two bottles of a new collection in 2026 called Optimum. The Optimum Collection features unique and innovative lightweight glass bottle shapes. It is a collection that easily demonstrates glass wine bottles can be well designed and lightweight.

With its low shoulder and long, slender neck, the Burgundy shaped BLOSSOM OPTIMUM bottle boasts a unique silhouette and optimized design. Its technical features include a height of 11.81”, a punt of 0.79” and its featherweight of 419 g.

And the Bordeaux shaped CHERRY OPTIMUM retains the timeless elegance of historic bordelaises thanks to its emblematic details including a rounded shoulder, a slightly tapered body, a punt of 0.79” and a height of 12.32”.

Both the BLOSSOM and CHERRY stand out for their screwcap closure, offering convenience appreciated by consumers, facilitating access to export markets where this type of closure is often preferred. What’s more, these bottles meet the weight criteria required for export, positioning them as a benchmark in the “sustainable choice” bottle category.

As with any product, the packaging is an external reflection of what is inside and the brand owner’s unique vision for its product. Hence the options for the packaging also play a crucial role in helping define the product’s quality and differentiation amongst competitors. For the BLOSSOM and CHERRY, wine producers have a choice of two colors. The first option is Antique Green which offers the highest ultra violet protection and is produced using new and recycled glass (cullet). And the second option is Extra White, a special glass characterized by its transparency, unique brilliance, and luster. Each option reinforces the luxury cues Saverglass customers expect, while supporting their environmental goals.

Wine producers can learn more about Saverglass’ innovations and newest glass bottle collections at the upcoming 2026 Unified Symposium (Booth #519) at the SAFE Credit Union Convention, Sacramento, California, on January 28-29 | 2026 Oregon Wine Symposium (Booth 138) at the Portland Convention Center, Portland, Oregon, on February 2-4 | 2026 WiVi Central Coast (Booth #225) at the Paso Robles Event Center, Paso Robles, California, on March 12.

New Low-Carbon Electricity Supply at Saverglass North American Manufacturing Site

New release highlights the company’s environmental milestone reinforcing its commitment to replacing its main energy source with a hybrid solution

December 9, 2025 (Fairfield, CA) – Leading premium glass bottle maker Saverglass, part of the Orora Group, proudly announces the successful transition of its North American  manufacturing site’s shift to a very low carbon electricity source. With this change, Saverglass continues to advance its externally validated SBTi greenhouse gas reduction roadmap and take a step closer to its global target of achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Matt Wilson, Senior Vice President Americas at Saverglass comments, “We have achieved a milestone in Saverglass’ CSR efforts to reduce our environmental footprint. Our Acatlan, Mexico facility has transitioned from carbon-based electricity to very low carbon electricity. The change has enabled us to reduce our site’s CO2 emissions by 30%”. “The majority of glass and decoration production achieved at Saverglass’ Mexico facility is for its North American spirits customers. This change in our site’s carbon emissions means we have reduced our Scope 2 emissions close to zero. To give you an idea, this reduction in CO2 emissions is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by more than 19,000 hectares of forest every year*. It represents a considerable impact for our clients’ carbon commitments”, comments Paul Rosado-Rivial, CSR Manager Saverglass Americas.

In addition to its environmental milestone, the Acatlan facility recently received the Excellence in Labor Practices award from the Ministry of Labor of the state of Jalisco, recognizing another achievement in Saverglass’ CSR approach. “This award highlights our ongoing commitment to the well-being of our collaborators, our desire to make our workplace a safe, ethical and fulfilling environment, and placing us within the top 1% of the companies operating in Jalisco,” says Paul Rosado-Rivial, CSR Manager Saverglass Americas.

Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid Documentary: The art, history and culture of wine & spirits are evidenced through its packaging journey.

For Roederer Estate, working with Saverglass affords them the ease of knowing the fine details are consistent and well thought out.  He chose Saverglass for both its bespoke L’Ermitage and its sustainable packaging options.

"You want your suppliers to share the same vision of craftsmanship and precision while making bottles that need to hold over 6 bars of pressure” comments Head Winemaker, Arnaud Weyrich, "the example is the custom L’Ermitage bottle with a crest where precision glass making is required to keep the crispness of the glass medallion".

Saverglass Offers Sneak Peek Into Day 5 Of The Exclusive Napa Rise Symposium

Paving the path for the California wine industry, Napa Green recently wrapped up hosting it's second Napa Rise Symposium where valuable climate change topics were shared and discussed.

The Saverglass team attended Day 5: Supply Chain & Waste Prevention

On supply chain packaging, the headline topics included the CO2 impact of DtC shipping ground vs air freight as well as a new boxed option, the use of recyclable plastic liners for label rolls and the benefits of choosing a lighter weight bottle. Attendees were encouraged to talk to their suppliers about how they have validated their roadmap that will propel them to their carbon neutral goal and to engage them with the question of, ‘what else should I know?'.

Applying the new tools introduced in the education sessions, attendees engaged with the Saverglass team to learn more about our road to Carbon Neutrality and inquired about our sustainable efforts that extend beyond providing our customers with more lightweight options.

Some of our responses included the following,

Weight - The bottle weight impacts our customer's direct and measurable carbon footprint. High quality lightweight bottles are available and more are launching. Saverglass has the ability to take an existing bottle and reduce its weight between 10% - 30% while maintaining the quality and visual appeal of the original bottle.

Repacking - We do offer repacking and have a corrugate supplier, or you can use your own and we can repack for you. Either way, the plastic wrap we use to wrap the cased pallet is made from recycled plastic and is compostable.  The pallets are also reused (after passing quality inspection) and sold at a discounted rate.

Our Biggest Impact - As the manufacturer of our own bottles, the biggest impact Saverglass can make to reduce our CO2 footprint (no matter what the weight) involves the type of energy we use to power the furnaces that melt the cullet and raw material to make each glass bottle. The type of energy depends on multiple factors, including technological advances, availability of the energy resource and cost.

External Validation - Of the CO2 roadmap and tracking for success.  Saverglass is Science Based Targets initiative approved and received the Gold from EcoVadis.

Saverglass recently surveyed customers with the goal of doing even more to provide our customers with,

- Cost-effective sustainable solutions

- Increased transparency for your supply chain

- Innovative product development

- Enhanced ESG reporting support

This isn't just our journey – We all agree, it's a shared commitment to doing what matters.
