Cutting‑Edge Equipment Isn’t Enough—Reliable Support and Service Is What Counts

We’re on site with one of our longest‑standing partners—Pacheco Ranch Winery—right in our own backyard of Novato. Today we’re removing their RS130 telemetry node & data logger and replacing it with the RS330: an advanced cellular telemetry node, data logger and equipment controller. Here it's monitoring and uploading real‑time data from their weather station. The RS330, our most expandable unit, can monitor weather, soil data, water level data, flowmeter rates, and provide irrigation control all in one package.

The RS130 served faithfully for over a decade, but even the toughest hardware eventually wears out—and when it does, Ranch Systems has your back. We’re ready to troubleshoot any issue and can be on site at a moment’s notice to make repairs or swap equipment—so your system stays online and your vines get the care they deserve.

Ranch Systems Introduces RS300 Wireless Telemetry Unit: Lower Cost, Next Generation “Universal” Node

Novato, CA – Ranch Systems, a leading provider of monitoring and control solutions for growers, is now shipping its next generation of wireless telemetry unit worldwide. The RS300 core product is available for under $1,000 US and can be configured for a wide range of agricultural applications, including: weather and climate monitoring, soil moisture tracking, tank and pond monitoring, remote camera surveillance as well as irrigation valve, pump and engine control.

The advanced RS300 is classed as a “universal” telemetry node because it can be configured and expanded as needed to meet the current and future requirements of the application. It combines data logging with radio telemetry in a rugged outdoors enclosure integrated with solar panel and battery. The RS300 offers a range of cellular and WiFi radio options for communication to Ranch Systems Internet server as well as various local area radio systems. The basic unit has 1 dual input port, two high-speed serial ports and 4MB of data memory. Two expansion slots allow addition of up to 8 outputs/valve controls or 8 additional sensor inputs, or a mix of those. Nodes with local radio modems require the presence on-site of at least one RM210 base station for coordination of all data back and forth to the RanchMaster online software application. Models with cellular or WiFi modems communicate directly to the Ranch Systems server. Local radio nodes have a range of ¼ to 10 miles to reach the nearest RM210, depending on terrain, radio type and antenna gain, but intermediary nodes can act as repeaters for outer nodes, forming a “mesh” style network. RS300 firmware supports the “plug and play” integration of a wide range of weather and soil moisture sensors.

”The RS300 not only provides growers with a telemetry unit that can be configured to their current requirements, but be expanded or repurposed as their needs change in the future.” declares Jacob Christfort, Founder and President of Ranch Systems. “It is more cost effective, more flexible and easier to integrate than any other unit of its kind, keeping Ranch Systems at the forefront of wireless telemetry technology.” Thomas Christfort, General Manager of Ranch Systems Europe, adds “The RS300 is the ideal platform to meet the many and varied requirements found across Europe as well as other parts of the world.

Ranch Systems is a fast-growing, technology company focused on wireless solutions for field monitoring and control in agricultural and environmental applications. Its patented technology is unique in terms of its modularity and the breadth of solutions possible: from a single weather station to sophisticated meshed networks monitoring and controlling the entire growing and irrigation operation, including options like remote camera surveillance and property access control. Ranch Systems is an established leader in the California market and is currently expanding world-wide.

Ranch Systems - Industry Leading Remote Irrigation Control Solutions

2011 has been a breakout year for Ranch Systems providing remote irrigation control to some very large growers in California, Canada and overseas!!  Ranch Systems reseller partner network has contributed to a record first half of the year!!   We would like to thank our reseller partners all over the world.

Irrigating multiple, large and/or remote properties can be very challenging and labor intensive. In addition, it is often difficult to know exactly when (or if) valves were activated, and whether or not the desired duration or amount of water distribution was achieved.  Furthermore, in instances where immediate response is required, manual valve activation may not be an option.

Ranch Systems offers an effective and reliable way to address these challenges by managing the full cycle of irrigation, from valve activation through water flow measurement to soil moisture tracking.  The system can be used only for measurement and monitoring, or can be used to activate valves for remote irrigation control or irrigation scheduling.

Announcing Remote Engine Monitoring and Control!

Ranch Systems products are ideal for remote monitoring and control of engine-driven equipment such as irrigation and mining pumps, generators or wind machines, or any other engine-driven equipment.

Diesel-powered Irrigation pump with Murphy EMS-PRO controller and Ranch Systems RM210 remote telemetry.

The solutions range from simple on-off monitoring using an oil pressure transducer to complete monitoring of engine statistics and start/stop of engine. The most advanced control is enabled by the partnership between Ranch Systems and Murphy Corporation and Macquarrie Corporation in Australia, allowing any suitable Murphy-controlled engine to be monitoring and controlled on-line.

Ranch Systems RM210 or RS210 unit is connected to the engine controller or transducers. This unit regularly samples key statistics and transmits back to the Ranch Systems online application. When the user decides to start or stop, or when indicated by a program defined online, the signal is transmitted back to the unit and then engine is started or stopped as required, typically within seconds. The connectivity can be via the cellular/mobile phone system or by direct internet connection.

On-line Application: Typical map view of current status. Clicking on a specific value brings up a "drill-down" time graph.

BENEFITS

  • Save labor and travel costs associated with manual monitoring of engines
  • Save fuel costs from unnecessary runtime
  • Prevent pump wear and damage from dry running
  • Predict and optimize refueling times by knowing exact run-times
  • Auto-start based on critical conditions (frost, low-water, soil moisture)

Remote Camera Solutions for your Property Entrances

The images are captured on a fixed time interval, or based on the motion detector, and immediately uploaded to the Ranch Systems Internet application, where authorized users can see the images or short videos. It is also possible to configure alerts, such that users receive a text message or live telephone call within minutes of an event occurring.

The technology consists of a cellular data node (RS210-CELL) including a solar panel, a digital video recorder (RX300-DVR), a rugged outdoor camera with infrared illumination and optionally a motion detector which can be of the beam or infrared type.

Solutions can be further developed by adding electronic keypads for code entry, either for time tracking or gate access control. And the RX300 unit has 4 relay outputs that can be used to control gate openers or alarms. The net result is a wide array of opportunities to grow a remote monitoring and control application in modular steps.

Best of all perhaps: this is just one piece of the overall Ranch Systems solutions suite, which means that the cost of the system can be shared with all the other functionality, such as weather station, soil moisture tracking and irrigation control.

Typical Components: (All mounted on channel strut pole)

  1. RS210-CELL cellular node
  2. Solar panel
  3. RX300 expansion box with DVR
    (Digital Video Recorder)
  4. IP66 rated camera
  5. Dual-element PIR motion detector.

ALERT - Frost Season is upon us and Ranch Systems is here to help

One of the most critical risks to vineyards and other agribusiness is frost, but ranch managers also face the risk of heat extremes that threaten crops and field workers, risk of breakdown of irrigation systems, and other problems.  Common to these conditions is the need for quick action to mitigate the risk.  Minutes can mean millions.

For dedicated alerting applications, Ranch Systems addresses these challenges with an alert system that notifies you – using voice message, text messages and or email – of any of wide range of critical conditions in the field that require prompt attention.

Ranch Systems offers the RS210-CELL product providing ultra-fast alerting direct to any phone line text messaging and email using its own built-in cellular modem. This product is inexpensive and is easily accessible using your Mobile Device or PC browser.
