Signite: A Breakthrough in Sustainable Labeling, Available with Makro Labeling Equipment

When it comes to packaging, a label is more than an identifier. It is a statement of brand quality and a reflection of a company’s values. That is why Signite, the innovative decorating solution from Actega, is attracting so much attention. And now, through Makro Labeling systems, this technology is available to producers in North America, exclusively through Prospero Equipment Corp.

What Makes Signite Different

Signite represents a new category of labeling. Unlike typical pressure-sensitive labels or direct-to-container printing, Signite combines a unique low-waste printing process with advanced application machinery. The result is decoration that is both beautiful and environmentally responsible.

The benefits are clear:

  • Lower waste throughout the production process
  • Greater design freedom compared to traditional methods
  • Improved recyclability and container reuse
  • A premium look and feel that elevates brand presentation
  • Highly Cost-competitive, and less expensive than many popular label solutions

The packaging industry has taken notice. Signite was recognized with the Label Industry Global Award for Innovation, underscoring its potential to change the way brands approach packaging decoration.

How Makro and Actega Made It Possible

While Actega developed the Signite printing process, the full advantages of the system can only be realized with specialized applicator equipment. This is where Makro Labeling plays a vital role. With decades of experience in modular labeling machines, Makro designed and engineered rotary-style systems capable of handling Signite at production speeds ranging from under 100 to as much as 400 containers per minute.

The collaboration between Actega and Makro ensures that Signite is not just a concept, but a viable, scalable solution for real-world production environments.

Prospero’s Role in Bringing Signite to North America

As the exclusive North American distributor of Makro Labeling, Prospero Equipment provides more than just access to this breakthrough technology. Prospero plays a value-added role at every step of the process, from guiding producers through the sales process, to ensuring smooth installation and seamless line integration, and into the lifetime of servicing and supporting the equipment.

This means that producers adopting Signite technology through Makro machines can count on Prospero not only for cutting-edge equipment, but also for expertise and reliability that extends far beyond the point of purchase.

Why This Matters for Producers

For craft producers in wine, beer, or spirits, Signite offers a chance to stand out with decoration that delivers both design impact and a reduced environmental footprint. For larger consumer goods brands in categories including food and beverage, home goods and personal care items, Signite provides a scalable platform to help achieve ambitious sustainability goals while maintaining packaging quality and efficiency.

By integrating Signite into Makro labeling machines, and with Prospero’s dedicated support, producers can now access a forward-looking solution that meets the needs of today while preparing for the demands of tomorrow.

Looking Ahead

Sustainability combined with cost containment are no longer optional in packaging. Consumers, regulators, and brand owners are all pushing for solutions that minimize waste and maximize recyclability. Signite is proof that innovation can deliver on both fronts, providing premium decoration without compromise.

Through Makro Labeling equipment, available exclusively in North America through Prospero Equipment, Signite is now within reach for producers who want to leave a mark without leaving a footprint.

Scaling Up: When Is It Time to Invest in Automated Labeling Equipment?

For small and growing beverage brands, the path from hand-applied labels to a streamlined automated labeling line is a natural part of scaling up. Whether you produce wine, craft beer, spirits, or are part of the surging categories like canned cold brew, kombucha, infused seltzers, or functional beverages, the shift to automation can be a turning point in both brand presentation and operational efficiency. But how do you know when it’s time to make that leap?

Recognizing the Signs That You’ve Outgrown Manual Labeling

Early on, hand-labeling or using semi-manual applicators might be sufficient. Or perhaps you’re purchasing preprinted or wrapped cans for just one or two SKUs. Small batches and local distribution don’t always demand high-speed or consistency. However, as demand grows, manual labeling or purchasing pre-printed packaging can quickly become a bottleneck or weakness. Signs it may be time to upgrade include:

  • Increasing Order Volumes: When your team spends more time labeling than producing or fulfilling orders, it’s time to consider automation.
  • Quality Inconsistencies: Hand-applied labels can vary in placement or show bubbles and wrinkles, which can hurt shelf appeal.
  • Expanding SKUs or Packaging Types: More product variations often require faster changeovers, higher precision, or the ability to label blanks instead of ordering premade packaging.
  • Missed Deadlines: Struggling to meet delivery timelines because labeling slows down production is a clear sign of inefficiency.

Why Automated Labeling Is a Game-Changer

Automated labeling equipment offers more than speed—it delivers consistency, professional presentation, and flexibility. A quality labeling machine can handle a range of container sizes and shapes, from standard wine bottles to sleek aluminum cans, without sacrificing precision. They can also allow for inventory gains and efficiency. For emerging categories like functional drinks and RTD cocktails, sharp label placement and tamper-evident seals are crucial to winning customer trust.

The Cost-Benefit Balance

While the upfront investment can feel significant for smaller brands, the return is measured not only in labor savings but also in brand reputation. Professional-looking packaging can elevate a product, helping it stand out on a crowded shelf or cooler. Moreover, automated systems reduce waste from misapplied labels and allow for higher throughput—critical as distribution scales to regional or national levels.

Customizing for Your Growth Stage

At Prospero Equipment Corp., we’ve spent over 50 years helping beverage manufacturers of every size scale their operations effectively. From compact, entry-level machines designed for smaller runs to fully automated systems for high-speed production lines, our team understands that each brand’s journey is unique. We work closely with wineries, breweries, distilleries, and producers in emerging beverage categories to find labeling solutions that fit today’s needs while leaving room for tomorrow’s growth.

When to Take the Next Step

If you’re consistently facing production slowdowns or see an opportunity to expand into larger markets, investing in automated labeling equipment could be the move that accelerates your success. As the beverage industry continues to evolve, brands that adapt their operations early often find themselves better positioned for the next wave of consumer demand.

Canning Line Basics: Choosing the Right Equipment for Your Beverage Brand

In today’s craft beverage industry, cans have officially claimed the crown. Lightweight, durable, recyclable, and favored by retailers and consumers alike, aluminum cans are now the go-to format for packaging everything from flagship IPAs to water and everything in between. For breweries scaling up from taproom sales or mobile canning services, investing in an in-house canning line can be a game-changing step toward growth, quality control, and brand presence. For energy drinks or water, embracing the aluminum trend can play into sustainability and branding opportunities that connect with audiences across North America.

At Prospero Equipment Corp., we’ve spent decades helping beverage manufacturers evolve their production and packaging systems. With premium canning and labeling solutions from our trusted partners like GAI and Makro, we support craft producers in building packaging lines that perform today and evolve for tomorrow. Here’s what to consider as you plan your next phase.

Depalletizing and Rinsing

Every canning line starts with clean, well-oriented cans. Depalletizers lift and stage empty cans onto the conveyor while maintaining orientation and minimizing damage. From there, cans are rinsed—typically with filtered air or ionized water—to eliminate dust and debris.

Features to look for include:

  • Compact depalletizers for space-limited environments
  • Adjustable systems to handle multiple can sizes
  • In-line rinsers with nitrogen purging to reduce oxygen

Filling

Filling is the heart of the canning process, and precision here directly impacts product quality and shelf life. GAI’s counter-pressure can fillers are designed to preserve carbonation and minimize oxygen pickup during the fill. With options for both small-batch producers and high-speed operations, and still or carbonated beverages, GAI’s systems are scalable and built with industry-leading accuracy.

Benefits include:

  • Counter-pressure filling for carbonation retention
  • COâ‚‚ purging pre- and post-fill to minimize dissolved oxygen
  • Consistent fill volumes with minimal waste
  • Seamless integration with downstream systems

Seaming

Once filled, cans are lidded and seamed. Quality seams are essential to prevent leaks, oxidation, or spoilage. GAI seamers offer tight tolerance control and durable performance.

Look for:

  • Precision double seaming with automatic monitoring
  • Compatibility with various lid types
  • Integration with CIP for cleaning between runs

Labeling is more than a branding exercise, it’s a functional step with major operational implications. Whether using pressure-sensitive labels, shrink sleeves, or innovative direct-to-surface decorations, your labeler must keep pace with your production line while delivering a flawless finish.

Our labeling systems deliver on speed and precision, with features like:

  • Full- or partial-wrap label capability
  • Servo-driven label application for consistent placement
  • Tool-free changeovers for seasonal or rotating SKUs
  • Compatibility with both paper and film labels

Among our labeling solutions, Prospero is pleased to be able to offer the Makro line, including Hot-Glue, Pressure Sensitive Labels (PSL,) Roll-fed, Cold-Glue, and the exclusive Actega – Signite decorating system for cans as well as bottles.

Note: If you’re utilizing exclusively pre-printed cans, you might be able to avoid the need for labeling equipment, but most breweries opt for the flexibility that inline labeling offers, even if some of their can stock is pre-printed.

Date Coding and Traceability

To meet legal requirements and retailer standards, cans must typically marked with production codes, best-by dates, or batch info. Prospero and other integrators (I’m realizing I’m not 100% clear on the role we play visa vie marking and coding) offer a variety of coding systems that integrate cleanly into any canning line, providing reliable marking at high speeds without downtime.

Pack Out and Palletizing

From here, your product is ready to be packaged and shipped. Depending on your volume, you may need:

  • Snap-on or PakTech-style handle applicators
  • Tray packers or shrink bundlers for multi-pack formats
  • Case erectors, sealers, and palletizers to prepare product for distribution

Prospero can help you design a line that fits your current needs and allows for staged expansion.

Future-Proofing Your Packaging Line

The craft beverage industry is rapidly changing—not just in flavors and formats, but in packaging expectations, sustainability mandates, and branding demands. Your canning line should meet your needs today and set you up for tomorrow.

That’s where Makro Labeling stands apart. In addition to their advanced, modular labeling systems, Makro is the exclusive global equipment partner for Actega’s Signite decorating technology—a breakthrough solution gaining momentum for its combination of sustainability and cost efficiency.

Signite offers:

  • Direct-to-surface decoration that eliminates label liners, adhesives, and backing materials
  • Full recyclability, with no label removal required
  • Premium finish with tactile and high-resolution effects
  • Competitive economics compared to traditional labels and sleeves

This innovation positions Makro equipment as a powerful long-term investment for breweries looking to reduce environmental impact without compromising on branding or performance.

Whether your focus is increasing throughput, improving quality, or making your packaging more sustainable, choosing Signite-compatible equipment ensures you’re ready for the next evolution in craft beverage packaging.

At Prospero Equipment Corp., we help breweries bring their packaging operations in-house and up to speed. With over 50 years of experience and a portfolio that includes industry-leading brands like GAI and Makro, we provide end-to-end canning line solutions—from planning and configuration to installation, training, and ongoing support.

The Perfect Crush Pad Set-up

Harvest season is when everything happens at once—and the equipment you rely on needs to do more than just keep up. For small and mid-sized wineries producing between 2,000 and 20,000 cases annually, efficiency and flexibility are essential. Whether you’re dealing with hand- picked grapes, machine harvested fruit, varying varietals, or tight crush pad space, your destemmer-crusher needs to deliver quality results without slowing you down or locking you into a rigid setup.

That’s where the right equipment makes all the difference. You need something that’s not just capable—but configurable. Not just powerful—but versatile.

A Crush Pad Essential: Meet the Lugana 1R

At Prospero Equipment Corp., we’ve been supporting wineries for over 50 years, and we know how important the right tools are for maintaining wine quality from grape to glass. We also know how important productivity and efficiency is in the crunch-time of harvest season; that’s why we recommend the Lugana 1R as the perfect integrated destemmer-crusher for boutique and mid-size producers.

With a throughput of 1 to 6 tons per hour, the Lugana 1R is built for versatility. It features:

  • Adjustable speed controls for both the grape infeed auger and destemming paddles
  • Soft poly-tipped paddles to reduce maceration
  • Multiple cage options, including stainless steel and food-grade plastic
  • Rubber crushing rollers with hand-adjusted spacing to control crush levels

From hand-picked fruit to machine harvested fruit, the Lugana 1R is adaptable to your harvest style and production scale and maximizes the available space on your crush pad.

Built to Move, Designed to Flex

One of the most loved features of the Lugana 1R is its mobility and versatility. With locking caster wheels and telescopic legs, it can be repositioned or easily moved around. That’s a game-changer for small wineries working with tight layouts or staggered harvest schedules. The adjustable leg stand allows a winery to lower the unit down to work with a must pump or be raised up to destem the fruit directly into macro bins. It also has the ability to place a post sorting table under the Lugana 1R like our roll tech mini automatic grape sorting system. Versatility at its best!

Clean, Maintain, Repeat

Ease of cleaning is built into every component. The destemming drum, axle, and must gathering tank are all removable for fast, thorough sanitation between batches. Quick access points make daily maintenance simple and keep your workflow moving.

Roll Tech mini– An Affordable Option for Automatic Grape Sorting!

The Roll Tech Mini sorting table integrates seamlessly with the Lugana 1R destemmer/crusher units for gentle handling of hand-picked fruit. The system will easily roll underneath the lugana 1R (with leg stand) and sort out any green jacks, leaves or stems that made it through the destemmer.  Its food grade roller system is adjustable and can be adjusted on the fly to ensure proper sorting of whole berries from waste material.  With its low entry cost and automatic design which greatly reduces labor cost makes it a great solution for any small to mid-range winery.

And when you don’t need it, it simply rolls out of the way.

Need More Throughput?

The Lugana 1R is an excellent fit for smaller wineries but if anticipate needing higher capacity in the future, Prospero has you covered.

  • The Lugana 2R steps up to 7–9 tons per hour, perfect for growing wineries or mid-size operations looking for increased efficiency.  This unit can still be paired up with our roll tech mini to process at these speeds as well.
  • For even higher capacity, the Lugana 3R delivers 12–20 tons per hour, ideal for larger commercial-scale wineries producing 50,000+ cases annually.

Whether you’re scaling up, future proofing or starting big, we have the right equipment for your production goals.

Unlocking the Potential of Ready-to-Drink (RTD) Beverages with Prospero Equipment

Ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages are taking the alcoholic beverage industry by storm. From refreshing spiked seltzers to pre-made cocktails, RTDs offer consumers convenience without sacrificing quality or flavor. They’re a perfect choice for any occasion, whether it’s a poolside hangout or a rooftop party. As the demand for these delicious and convenient drinks soars, the need for efficient and reliable equipment to produce them also rises.

At Prospero Equipment, we offer state-of-the-art solutions to help you capitalize on the booming RTD market and meet this growing demand.

What are RTD Beverages?

RTD beverages, also known as pre-mixed cocktails, are alcoholic drinks that come ready to enjoy straight from the can or bottle. Their surge in popularity can be attributed to several factors, including their convenience – grab one and go, no bartending skills required! – variety, with options to suit every taste from fruity and light to spirit-based and complex, and moderation, as many RTDs boast lower alcohol content compared to traditional cocktails.

There are two main categories of RTDs: malt-based drinks, like White Claw and Truly, which are typically lower in alcohol and have a lighter, more refreshing taste; and spirit-based drinks, exemplified by High Noon and Cutwater Spirits, which tend to have a higher alcohol content and a more complex flavor profile.

Why You Should Care About RTDs

The RTD market is booming with no signs of slowing down, presenting a lucrative opportunity for producers. Consumers are flocking to RTDs for their convenience and variety, creating a golden chance to capitalize on this trend. The market is also ripe for innovation, with space for exciting new flavors and formulations. With the right equipment and creativity, you can develop unique and irresistible RTDs to grab market share. And because production scales easily to meet demand, whether you’re a small craft producer or a large-scale manufacturer, Prospero Equipment has solutions to propel your RTD beverage business forward regardless of size.

RTD Equipment You’ll Need

To produce high-quality RTD beverages, having reliable and efficient equipment tailored to your production needs is crucial. Whether you’re focusing on spirit-based or malt-based RTDs, Prospero is your trusted partner in finding the perfect equipment solutions.

We offer a range of equipment solutions for various stages in the RTD beverage making process. Whether you need stills, filling equipment, labelers, or packaging solutions, we’ve got you covered.

The most common need that we see from clients looking to expand into RTD’s is a need for a canning line. Enter the GAI-3621, a high-speed monoblock capable of filling up to 3,600 cans per hour, elevating your RTD production game. This monoblock features a high-pressure, electro-pneumatic volumetric can filler on a 10-valve rotary turret, along with a single-head seamer. Nitrogen injection for canning still products is available upon request.

Besides the GAI-3621, we have several other canning options to choose from, such as the GAI MLE-CAN,  a linear-designed monoblock, and the GAI 12021 FE-CAN, which features a head rotary seamer.

Our specialty filling equipment can handle still, carbonated, spirit-based, and viscous liquids. Additionally, our fillers are designed for efficient and reliable operations. For bottle fillers, we offer the FM Bier Series and the FE/RE Bier Series, specifically designed for bottling carbonated beverages while preventing oxidation and foam formation.

Our offerings include self-adhesive and glue labelers, as well as high-quality packaging equipment for the RTD beverage and cocktail industry. This includes palletizers, depalletizers, case erectors, partition inserters, case packers, top sealers, and weight check systems.

The RTD market offers a wealth of opportunities for producers to innovate and thrive. With Prospero Equipment as your partner, you can enter the market with confidence and set your brand on the path to success.
