Successful Launch for the Inaugural Enoforum USAOver 200 wine industry professionals attended the conference featuring international research, trial tastings, product demos, and trade show
Healdsburg, CA, May 16, 2022 – Enoforum, Europe’s most popular technical conference for winemakers, had its U.S. debut on Wednesday, May 11, at the Sonoma County Event Center. The inaugural Enoforum USA welcomed over 200 wine industry professionals.

The conference was opened by event producers Gianni Trioli, founder of Vinidea and creator of Enoforum, and George Christie, President & CEO of Wine Industry Network. Following was a very intensive program demonstrating the results of recent R&D projects presented by industry suppliers, oenologists, viticulturists, researchers, and academicians worldwide. Six international research projects were also live-streamed during the conference.
Attendees also had the opportunity to attend trial tastings, product demonstrations, and a trade show that featured companies who showed off the latest innovations in winemaking and production.

“We are very happy to have been able to show American winemakers the full ENOFORUM formula, after last year's experience when pandemic limitations forced us to switch to a virtual program, without tastings, demos, or exhibitors” declared Gianni Trioli, President of Vinidea, and creator of Enoforum. “The scientific level of the studies exposed at the conference was very high, and the live streaming mode – now familiar to everyone – allowed us to have in one day as many as fourteen speakers from overseas, and chosen among the most reputable European universities with a bottom-up approach,” Trioli added.
“We don’t have anything quite like Enoforum for our winemaking community in the United States, so we were thrilled to play a role in bringing the conference here. It was a great start to what we envision as just the beginning of establishing Enoforum USA as the premier technical conference for the U.S. wine industry” stated George Christie, President, and CEO of Wine Industry Network.

Enoforum 2022 Spain a SuccessIn the two-day wine innovation event in Zaragoza, 500 technicians attended the presentation of innovative solutions from researchers from 10 countries and 28 leading companies in the sector
The third edition of Enoforum Spain, which took place at the Zaragoza Trade Fair Congress Center on 20th and 21st April and was attended by no less than 500 conference attendees, has come to an end. After the first edition in attendance in May 2018, the pandemic in 2020 forced a virtual edition, which nonetheless expanded participation to as many as 1,500 people, with significant involvement from South America.
“The success of Enoforum – says Gianni Trioli, founder of Vinidea and creator of Enoforum – lies in the fact that it represents a unique opportunity for technicians involved in innovation to acquire in a short space of time all the information they need to successfully transfer a new technology to their own production: the principles and the scientific basis of a new practice, the details on equipment or products that allow its application in the cellar or in the vineyard, the experience of colleagues, the elements for a preliminary cost/benefit analysis. All this can be found at Enoforum“.
The numbers of Enoforum give a measure of the amount of information available to technicians in the sector.
The programme of the congress included 43 reports, 23 of which were of a scientific nature from university researchers and 20 technical reports from R&D managers of innovative companies. 6 tasting sessions, attended by more than 200 attendees, provided concrete examples of the results that can be obtained with the new techniques. 28 innovative companies presented the results of their R&D activities, with reports from the congress, demonstrations and tastings, in the stands of the exhibition area. Six European projects Horizon, Life, Cosme were presented at Enoforum.

According to Paloma Caldentey of Vinidea, coordinator of Enoforum Spain 2022, “technicians and companies have responded enthusiastically to the offer of an event finally in presence where they can meet and exchange experiences and opinions from the last few years. The organization of such a large and complex event requires a strong commitment for many months, but a good collaboration has developed between the Vinidea team, the Excell Iberica team, Feria of Zaragoza and the various media partners, which has allowed Enoforum 2022 to take place with great public participation and without any technical problems“.
Enoforum 2022 was organized in collaboration with GIEnol (Grupo de Investigacion Enologica), PTV (Plataforma Tecnologica del Vino), SIVE (Società Italiana di Viticoltura ed Enologia) and Enomaq (whose next edition is scheduled for February 2023). Besides OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine), the event received the patronage of the associations of enologists of Rioja, Extremadura, Canarias, Aragon, Castilla-La-Mancha, Valencia, Cataluña and Galicia, as well as FEAE (Federación Española de las Asociaciones de Enológos).

The involvement of the institutions and associations of the Spanish wine world is the result of the work of Antonio Palacios of Excell Iberica, who declared at the end of the event: “the 3 objectives of Enoforum 2022 – participation, internationalization, sharing innovations – have all been successfully achieved. The participation of 500 people makes Enoforum the largest Spanish congress in the sector. More than half of the congress reports (25 out of 43) were presented by foreign speakers from 9 different countries. The quality level of the innovations described was very high, as was the level of interaction between the technicians and the authors of public and private research”.
Recordings of the reports presented at Enoforum 2022, with their translations, will be available in the coming months on INFOWINE – Internet Magazine of Viticulture and Oenology (www.infowine.com).

The largest European conference focused on technical innovation in the wine industry is coming to the US!
Wine Industry Network is proud to partner with VINIDEA to launch the ENOFORUM USA event in Santa Rosa, CA, on May 11th.
"ENOFORUM is the only opportunity where the three pillars of innovation come together," says Gianni Trioli, VINIDEA's founder and president, "the researchers, the suppliers who fund much of this research and develop the technology, and the pioneering winemakers who implement the new technologies in their daily work and often adapt them for greater efficiency. When these three groups work together, we have innovation that is not just research published in a paper, but practical solutions ready to be applied at the winery."
Winemakers and viticulturists recognize the benefits of collaboration with their vendors, often going to them with a problem or an idea that the supplier then develops into a product. It's not unusual for them to work together to test the innovation during its development. The same is true for researchers, who often rely on vendors to fund the years they need to study the effects of a new ingredient or process and prove its efficacy.
Held in Europe for over 20 years, the biannual European ENOFORUM is back as a live event in Spain on April 21st, following a COVID hiatus. Past ENOFORUM events have attracted 1,200 attendees in Italy, 500 in Spain and 450 in Portugal, and brought over 1,900 technicians together with 70 research groups and 40 leading companies during the two-year cycle. In 2021, VINIDEA and Wine Industry Network (WIN) partnered to broadcast a virtual Enorforum USA to more than 1,000 attendees, and sessions have been re-broadcasted to thousands more. WIN will be sharing updates and videos from the Spanish conference to give our North American audience a flavor of how unique this innovation-focused event is.

Producers, technicians, oenologists and agronomists, researchers and technology suppliers can attend ENOFORUM USA in person to learn about new developments and innovations in the wine sector during five main activities:
- Scientific sessions with keynote lectures by internationally renowned researchers;
- Educational sessions with the technology resulting from recent R&D activity of leading suppliers;
- Trial tasting sessions of experimental or commercial wines obtained with innovative technologies;
- Product demos of new technologies developed by leading suppliers; and
- An exhibit hall where companies will have technicians available to exchange ideas on the latest developments in technology.

Topics will include a wide range of ideas and innovations in winemaking and production from France, Spain, Italy and beyond, including:
- How climate change impacts composition, wine quality and aroma;
- How non-invasive digital sensing technologies can help winegrowers adapt to the challenges of climate change, labor shortages and rising production costs;
- The promise of Lactobacillus strains as an alternative to Oenococcus oeni for malolactic fermentation in sparkling white wine production;
- Live tasting demonstrating the effects of different Liqueur d' Expedition on the aromatics and profile of sparkling wine;
- Demonstration of a novel computer vision method for optical grape sorting;
- The impact of organic, biodynamic and conventional production processes on Chianti DOCG wine and the resulting CO2 production impact on the environment; and
- An experimental case study of two modes of yeast inoculation.
