Restoration of Historic Hop Kiln Vineyard Nears Completion
Restoring Hop Kiln Vineyard is a meticulous endeavor aimed at preserving the historic integrity of this California Historical Landmark while making it fully accessible. Located in the picturesque Russian River Valley, the iconic fieldstone structure was built by Italian stonemasons in 1905 and originally used for drying and baling hops for the booming beer industry of the early 20th century. Since 1960, the estate has served as a winery and is celebrated as one of the top ten tasting rooms in Sonoma County. To ensure this historic gem remains accessible to all visitors, improvements have been made to the deck, main entrance, bathroom amenities, and navigation across the grounds. The restoration project also emphasizes the use of historically accurate materials, including refurbishment of the original conveyor belt machinery, though no longer functionally operational. As Nordby Construction finalizes the project, Hop Kiln Vineyard stands as a symbol of preservation done right. The caref

Stability Amid Chaos: Finding Safe Harbor from Wine Industry Challenges
The wine industry is grappling with uncertainty in a rapidly changing economic landscape, leaving winery owners, grape farmers, and wine sales teams in a state of flux. Wineries were already coping with a demographic shift towards younger generations less interested in wine than Boomer enthusiasts when the pandemic catalyzed market disruption. When bars, restaurants and tasting rooms closed, consumers stocked up on budget-friendly wines, and value wine sales briefly surged. Then, with extra cash from government stimulus checks, they began buying premium and luxury wines. Small wineries adapted by introducing curbside pickups and digital wine tastings and utilized their phone and email lists to reach potential customers which helped shore up losses from tasting room closures. Unfortunately, two and a half years post-pandemic, sales remain disappointing despite reopened tasting rooms and other hospitality businesses. Construction of the Brendel Tasting Room
Have you visited the Brendel Tasting Room? If not, it’s time to check it out! The new tasting room is located in a historic building in downtown Napa.  Construction of the Brendel Tasting Room involved both a cosmetic renovation of the historic building, as well as a full MEP design-build execution. Renovations to the historic space included a number of unique details such as neon lighting, timber counters and lime wash paint, which were completed perfectly to align with Brendel’s high quality profile. The space is bright, open and inviting and, with it’s unique corner window, allows visitors to experience the feel of the historic downtown, while enjoying Brendel’s wines.
