Lumo, the precision irrigation system growers use to irrigate to plan, has just released their new Irrigation Insights Report titled, Closing the Execution Gap: How Block-Level Irrigation Data Drives Profitability. The report presents first-of-its-kind block-level irrigation data collected from more than 4,500 irrigation events across hundreds of premium vineyard blocks in Napa and Sonoma over the course of the 2024 growing season. The central finding is that irrigation system performance is highly variable at an individual block level—one in ten irrigations miss their target volume by 50% or more and three in four irrigations miss by 10% or more. This lack of precision hurts growers’ ability to execute irrigations to plan and is costing them thousands of dollars an acre in lost productivity. The good news is that the report also highlights four data-driven strategies winegrape growers can adopt to dial in their irrigation precision and produce better crop outcomes. &ldqu

Lumo hasn’t been around all that long. In fact, the California-based, smart irrigation company was first launched by CEO and Founder Devon Wright and his team just two years ago. But within that very short time frame, Lumo’s cutting-edge water delivery system has captured the attention of the Northern Californian winegrowing community and truly shifted the way irrigation is done. Three Lumo One smart valves installed at a Jackson Family Wines vineyard in northern Sonoma County. Last summer, Lumo put the industry’s first smart irrigation valve, Lumo One, into the hands and vineyards of some of California’s top grape growers, including; Treasury Wine Estates, Wente Vineyards, Clos Du Val, Spottswoode Winery, REVM, Boheme Wines, Price Family Vineyards & Estates, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and Pine Ridge Vineyards. Now, after one full growing season, users are reporting groundbreaking results. “Lumo valves have the potential to unite my wate

Henry Halimi had certainly earned his retirement. Having achieved an impressive education in mathematics and mechanical engineering, and successful exits from multiple startups in his 45 years as a serial entrepreneur, Halimi had just sold Flo Technologies to Moen the plumbing-supply giant. Halimi co-founded Flo with his son Gabriel. Halimi owns multiple water technology patents and has sold millions of units through his inventions and innovative products, so going back to work didn’t really need to be high on his priority list. Lumo team install proprietary smart valve in a Sonoma County vineyard But, when Lumo CEO Devon Wright knocked on his door and asked Halimi to join him and company CTO John Hinnegan at their new agtech company focused on water sustainability through improved irrigation efficiency, Halimi didn’t hesitate. "I come from a second-generation water family from the old country," Halimi recounts. "As a kid, pumps, valves and pipes

Redwood Empire Vineyard Management to deploy first of its kind smart irrigation technology in vineyards this summer Sonoma County, California, March 15, 2023 – Lumo [lumo.ag], an Agtech company focused on water sustainability through the development of smart valve and irrigation technology, is proud to announce that leading vineyard management company, Redwood Empire Vineyard Management (REVM) is set to trial the first smart irrigation valve for growers this summer. REVM is among the first vineyard management companies to recognize the benefits of Lumo's smart irrigation technology. The vineyard management company, which manages vineyards on behalf of vineyard owners and provides a range of services such as the planting and harvesting of grapes, vineyard maintenance, irrigation, fertilization, and pest and disease management, understands the importance of an irrigation system that delivers consistent and reliable results. Smart Irrigation Valves vs. Smart Irrigation Controllers for Automation - LUMO
Smart irrigation controllers require components to form a complete system. That means sourcing parts from different manufacturers and sourcing software from a developer and trying to install them so that they work harmoniously together.

We asked a handful of people at #CES2023 what they thought about Lumo. Here's what they had to say...

It's not uncommon to visit a vineyard with automation equipment that has been abandoned, such as solenoid valves with the wires snipped or irrigation controllers that haven't been touched in years, which begs the question, why? The short answer is that unreliable automation is simply too risky for growers to bet their businesses on. It's safer to irrigate manually, if it ensures the job gets done, even if it's not the most efficient. Fortunately, technology developments are paving the way for automation systems that remove all the risk, while providing many benefits. #smartirrigation #irrigationtechnology #agtech #watermanagement #watersustainability https://lumo.ag/blog/why-irrigation-automation-hasnt-been-widely-adopted-yet/

Irrigation comprises 70% of global freshwater use and is growing faster than any other water usage source. Combine that with the first megadrought (a drought that lasts at least 20 years) in the western US since the late 1500s, and the significance of that consumption gains critical importance. Wineries and vineyard owners facing these challenging conditions are altering their agricultural practices in response. Devon Wright and co-founders of the Agtech startup Lumo, John Hinnegan and renowned water technology inventor, Henry Halimi, joined forces to develop a revolutionary solution to help growers protect this precious resource. Lumo's first-of-its-kind smart valve gives growers new tools to optimize water usage by going beyond timers to manage irrigation flow. It is the first valve to have a built-in controller, the first to have a built-in flow sensor with the option for users to add a pressure sensors, and the first to be fully wireless and internet-connected. The sensors dete
