For a few months now, we've been keeping an eye on ROBIN. Robin is the AI tool that we introduced in March this year, that anyone who uses Enolytics can access at any time. Robin is smart, friendly and humble, and she is constantly learning (that is, being trained) from new content and especially from the questions that wineries have asked. This week I'd like to pull back the curtain a bit on what those questions are. Here are six examples. How would I pull a report that shows me how many tasting fees (count) that we collected? How can I build a report showing total Club signups by month, that includes sales associate, Club name, customer first and last names, and email? What features can help me analyze my customer data during the migration to another DTC system? How long will it take to update when I correct missing information? What is the best report to compare the performance of my new distributor in California against the previous one? What specific details or challenges

Wine is so simple…and so complex. It’s just fermented grape juice. But its magic—color, aroma, taste, and pure pleasure—depend on myriad factors like grape variety, region, vintage, sugar-acid-pH ratios, picking dates, winemaker decisions, and so much more. It’s a perfect blend of art and science, and one of life’s greatest pleasures. It’s also a source of 1,750,363 jobs, including nearly 50,000 in agriculture that are not even directly related to winery employment. In the Supplier category there are 41,551 agricultural jobs, and another 7,523 in the Induced category. The American wine industry is first and foremost a farming industry that could not exist without a large, skilled and dedicated labor force as well as the trellises, tractors, harvesters, and supplies needed to grow good grapes that make great wine at a reasonable price. There are 10,761 wine producers and 763,080 vineyard acres in the United States, and all 50 states produ

It's the first of its kind, and you get to have a front row seat. Wine data literacy + AI. It's a course created by the Harvard Data Science Review, where I'm proud to serve on the Advisory Board. We'll be piloting the course live in Switzerland in just a few weeks, and registration is open now for the half-day online learning experience. We'll be building that mini-course into a week-long version available on demand. So even if you can't join on June 24, there will be more chances coming up. I can imagine some questions you might be having, such as why is Harvard so interested in the wine industry? I wondered the same thing tbh. These are world-class data scientists and AI specialists, and no, their "day jobs" are not in wine. I'm the outlier in that regard, offering boots-on-the-ground perspective from Enolytics about the applications of data analytics in our industry. It's just that they love wine - like, really love wine - and they

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has updated its guidance on how to properly assess a religious accommodation request for an exemption to a COVID vaccine policy based on a sincerely held religious belief. CMPR previously posted here on how to properly assess a request for religious accommodation. The updated guidance provides some much needed clarification to employers faced with evaluating a request for accommodation. Some important updates include: You may ask your employee further questions to determine the religious nature or the sincerity of the stated belief. Employers must be careful to only engage in a limited inquiry and request reasonable verification. For example, refrain from repeatedly questioning the employee on topics they have already explained. Employers may establish that it cannot provide the religious accommodation due to an undue hardship by (1) documenting the accommodations considered, and (2) determining that the accommodation would (a) im

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2020 Executive Order (AB1346) is aimed at banning the sale of internal combustion engine-powered vehicles by 2035. It also included banning smaller gas-powered equipment irrelevant to transport, such as gas-powered pressure washers and other industrial cleaning equipment, lawn equipment, generators, golf carts and other off-road equipment that contribute to CO2 emissions. While we support the goal of seeking ways for California to have a greener future, this significantly impacts small businesses that focus on the production and sales of these products, including North Bay Equipment and Hotsy Pacific, which have been serving our communities for over 35 years. Pressure washers are an integral part of companies, schools and municipalities cleaning, sanitizing and maintaining their premises to ensure safe and clean environments for the public, children and employees. We ask you to please reach out to your State representatives and ask t

Rohnert Park, CALIFORNIA – The Wine Business Institute at Sonoma State University has issued a new report estimating that the California economy will experience a loss of nearly $10 billion from a decline in revenues to the state’s vintners and growers because of COVID-19. California’s wine industry is projected to lose $4.22 billion in revenues in 2020, based on significant decreases in on-premise, tasting room, and direct sales, according to an analysis by Jon Moramarco of bw166 released in April. That analysis estimated a $5.9 billion revenue loss for the entire U.S. wine industry this year. California wine’s role in the travel and hospitality sectors across the state creates economic connections to hundreds of other businesses, according to the SSU report, which measured lost business revenue based on direct, indirect, and induced economic impacts. In addition to forecasting a contraction of $9.6 billion in the California economy, the Sonoma State re
