The Target is Moving Again Some of the questions we've answered over the years through the SVB annual direct-to-consumer survey have been critical to the industry's success, such as whether standing or seated tastings are more effective, or going back over a decade ago, what the lifetime value of a direct-to-consumer customer is. The latter question was asked at a time when we were moving from an over-dependence on three-tier sales and evolving with the freedoms extended with the Granholm decision. Today, we find ourselves at a new point of evolution, so answers are critical to success. With two consecutive years of lower tasting room visitation impacting club memberships, wouldn't you be interested in knowing what your neighbors are doing to improve club signups that don't come through the tasting room? The 2022 Direct to Consumer Survey Has Been Extended As of the scheduled closing date of Friday the 18th, we had a little over 400 responses, but 65 are from Canada. And while everyone loves Canadians and is happy for their success, the USA only has about 350 responses when we need 500 U.S. responses to get good statistical significance. To get beyond the 150 U.S. responses we still need to produce results, we are extending the survey a week. It will now close Friday, March 25th. You can see how your region is performing thus far in the headline slide. (Please click on the chart to get a better view.) We need a minimum of 12 responses to break out your region's comps. In a change - You Can't Get The Survey Results or Presentation Slides Without Participating Only survey participants will get this information. It can't be purchased. At the end of May, we will broadcast a videocast to the industry and go over the new findings with other industry experts. But we will

Each year, Silicon Valley Bank partners with wineries across America to conduct two surveys - one on industry performance and another to provide direct-to-consumer metrics. We now have over a decade of data and information from which we can report nominal statistics and decipher trends. Over the years we've made many discoveries that have shaped the industry. The 2022 DtC Survey is open but will close Friday the 18th. At this point, we have 206 responses after one week but we need about 500 responses to get statistically significant results.
