Bouchard Cooperages is very proud to represent Tonnellerie Damy, based in Meursault, one of the most prestigious cooperages in Burgundy. Tonnellerie Damy, and its French Sales Manager Étienne Martin, work exclusively with their neighbor and client Domaine Élodie Roy in Maranges. This important producer uses Damy barrels exclusively for its production of chardonnay, aligoté and pinot noir. For those interested, the same Damy barrels Élodie Roy uses for the production of these wines are currently available from stock inventory in California, Oregon, Washington, Virginia and Ontario. History:European Coopers Hungary was founded in 1997 by Master Cooper Kristóf Flódung together with renowned representatives of the Italian wine industry including Piero Antinori from Tuscany's Marchesi Antinori, Eugenio Gamba from Piemonte's Botti Gamba and Jacopo Mazzei from Tuscany. Kristóf had already worked in the cooperage industry for decades at the renowned Rieger large format cooperage. The goal of European Coopers Hungary was to produce high-quality barrels for noble Italian wines. Today: European Coopers Hungary produces roughly 5,000 barrels a year at their Southern Hungary facility located in Palotabozsok where coopering has a long tradition. Since it's inception of coopering barrels meant for noble Italian wines, the cooperage has expanded production for export markets and employs a team of 10 coopers. Bouchard Cooperages’ Master Coopers USA Eco-Friendly Barrel Packaging Partnering with 1% For the Planet
  Master Coopers USA, a line of premium American oak barrels from Bouchard Cooperages has partnered with 1% For The Planet and has improved their barrel packaging to make it more eco-friendly and sustainable. Paolo Bouchard, Business Development Manager at Bouchard Cooperages explains that it is the industry standard for every single barrel to be wrapped individually with plastic wrap, cardboard and plastic stickers or tape. If the barrel is not well sealed via plastic wrap, it risks to loose it’s humidity which can lead to leaks. Also, if the bilge of the barrel is not well protected (typically with cardboard) it can suffer aesthetic and structural damage during transit. But one of the outcomes explains Paolo is that “all of this wrapping and protecting of the barrel for the final customer means a lot of packaging that generates lots of waste”.
