In every tasting room, the moments that matter most happen at the counter — or wherever a guest decides they’re ready to buy. The challenge is making sure your team can meet that moment quickly, without waiting on hardware or wrestling with terminals. Across the industry, the wineries seeing the strongest DTC results this year have focused on a few core operational shifts: 1️⃣ Reduce friction at checkout Guests expect fast, smooth transactions. For years, the direct-to-consumer (DTC) model for wineries was built in clear, separate silos: the Tasting Room team poured and sold wine, the Wine Club team managed membership and retention, and the Marketing team focused on email, text campaigns, and social media engagement. Each department had its own set of responsibilities, tools, and goals. But the wine industry doesn’t look like it did a decade ago. With increased competition, rising costs, shifting consumer behavior, and the pressure of economic uncertainty, wineries can no longer afford to work in fragmented parts. While wineries may have multiple reasons and methods for reaching out, guests experience the brand as a single relationship. The new standard? To build trust and loyalty, outreach needs to feel seamless, coordinated, with a relationship-first approach driven by PCS: Personal Connection Strategies. From Silos to Synergy The PCS model isn’t just a philosophy—it’s a framework for unifying your D

With the U.S. wine industry under pressure from declining sales, shifting consumer trends, and economic headwinds, Sonoma County’s vintners and grape growers are coming together in an unprecedented way to confront these challenges – and chart a positive path forward for the local industry. A steering committee of regional leaders has been formed to explore establishing the Sonoma County Wine Improvement District (WID) to provide stable, strategic funding for the long-term strength and sustainability of Sonoma County’s wine and agricultural economy. The stakes are high. The marketplace is changing rapidly and maintaining the status quo is not an option. The wine industry is facing challenges like never before which must be addressed to reverse the decline and grow the overall wine category. This effort is significant and grounded in a fundamental truth: grape growers and vintners are inextricably connected, and the success of one depends on the strength o

The global bulk wine market reaches the midway point of 2024 with activity levels ostensibly healthier than they were at the same stage of last year. This is owed largely to two factors: generic white wine is in something of a supply-demand balance, globally-speaking, following the short 2023 harvests in Italy and Spain and 2024 harvests in Chile and South Africa; and removal, in March, of China’s punitive import tariffs on Australian wines has quickly rejuvenated Australia’s red wine shipments. Beyond this, the global bulk market lacks a unifying good news story. Chile is enjoying a genuine rebound in international demand after a sharp drop in 2023: its bulk wine shipments were up 21.48% in January-April versus the first four months of last year, when they were down 18.9%. But Argentina, France and South Africa continue to see shrinking export sales, Californian pricing is softening as US retailer/distributor need remains limited, and activity in Europe beyond generi
