Wine Packaging Trends
A look at the trends influencing wine packaging design & innovation. Introduction U.S. wine total volume is expected to remain relatively flat for the next several years, while value will grow due to price increases and the persistence of the premiumization trend. In the crowded and increasingly challenging wine market, effective package design can help a brand get noticed and appeal to consumers. This report looks at several key trends impacting wine package design, from authentic storytelling to interactive engagement to environmentally and socially responsible solutions. Authenticity According to a recent GlobalData study, three out of four consumers consider product/brand authenticity essential or nice to have when making purchase decisions. This attitude is especially true among older generations and higher-income earners, a key demographic for wine sellers. Authentic brands are perceived as genuine, original, and transparent, providing quality assurance and trust. Euromon

Alternative Packaging Solutions: When Is It Best to Screen Print or Etch Your Wine Labels?
Husic Vineyards came to us originally looking to etch their existing paper label onto large format bottles. The paper label features a painting of the property, the names of their children, along with the two iconic palm trees, hence the name Estate Dos Palmas. Needless to say, it’s very detailed. When dealing with paper labeling, large format labels tend to be tricky due to low quantities and limitations in number of colors, cost, and application. This is where custom etching really shines as it is designed to compliment existing labels in any medium as a large format bottle decoration solution. Due to the large size of their paper label and continued trouble with application during bottling, Husic was motivated to consider screen printing their 750ml packages as well. Etching When recreating a label like this, a total redraw is needed to adapt the original artwork for etching. While the mechanical files existed for the paper label, it was necessary to recreate ou

Cal/OSHA Emergency COVID-19 Prevention Regulations
On November 19, 2020, the California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board passed the Cal/OSHA’s Emergency COVID-19 Prevention Regulation. The regulation was subsequently sent to the Office of Administrative Law (OAL) for review, and on November 30, 2020, the OAL approved the new regulation. The regulation found here became effective immediately – on November 30, 2020. All California employers must comply with the new regulation. The regulation outlines COVID-19 prevention, COVID-19 infections and outbreaks, and COVID-19 prevention in employer-provided housing and transportation. Employers should immediately begin reviewing or developing their COVID-19 Prevention Plan to ensure compliance. There are several specific requirements that must be included: Communication of COVID-19 policies and procedures including how employers will communicate COVID-19-related hazards to their employees, how employees can get tested for COVID-19, report symptoms and/or COVID-

By Dawn Ross, Partner As Shelter in Place restrictions continue to ease throughout California and employees return to the office, it is important for employers to be aware of the ever changing requirements and expectations to keep your staff and the public safe. Below is a checklist for employers about how to safely reopen, while accommodating employees who need to continue to work at home under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (“FFCRA”) and/or the Family and Medical Leave Act (“FMLA”).  Employers should also be aware of several other considerations that apply, including reasonable accommodation and leave obligations under the Fair Employment and Housing Act (“FEHA”), the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”), and the California Family Rights Act (“CFRA”). Close Contact Update from the CDC
What is "Close Contact"? Do you know what they mean when they say “close contact”?  The CDC has published updated information clarifying exactly what “close contact” is when assessing exposure risk. According to the most current information on the CDC website, having been in close contact means “someone was within six feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before the illness onset…until the time the patient is isolated.”  For asymptomatic patients, it is two days prior to testing. Through its ongoing research, the CDC has discovered that shorter individual exposures over a 24-hour period has a cumulative effect.  If a person was exposed to someone with COVID-19 for several 3 - 5 minute intervals in 24 hours, the total exposure would equal 15 minutes and would then be considered close contact for the purposes of contact tracing. The Pelican Label of Bay of Shoals Wine Is an Historic Reminder, Tracing Back to the First Settlements in South Australia and Celebrating Councillor Milton Turner
In the Australian region of Kangaroo Island, Bay of Shoals Wine turned history into a local, growing business. Located where the first settlements in South Australia were occupied, this winery with its beautiful gardens overlooks the Bay of Shoals and Reeves Point. Even their distinctive trait, the Bay of Shoals’ pelican is bounded to local traditions and its story goes back in time. The pelican label was chosen in honor of Councillor Milton Turner, born on Reeves Farm. Milton fed the pelicans every day for 15 years on the beach below the vineyard. At 5pm, tourists gathered, he never failed its duty, not a single day and here is where his legacy began. Still today the enclosed boat launching ramp is guarded by dozens of watchful pelicans. This new label for the savagnin variety, designed by immediate, is digitally printed by Multi-Color Australia & New Zealand on Arconvert’s Constellation Jade Raster. This natural ECF, FSCTM certified paper presents a beautifu
