Wine Industry Insiders with Michael Haney
In this episode, George interviews Michael Haney, Executive Director of Sonoma County Vintners. They discuss Haney’s upbringing in Nashville, TN, how he first entered the wine industry almost 35 years ago by helping run Nashville’s Wine Auction, meeting his wife, Juliana Martinelli of Martinelli Winery, and eventually moving to Sonoma County. Around the same time, Haney began his career with the Sonoma County Vintners (SCV). They also dive into the work that SCV does, including their commitment to their members, their community involvement through the SCV Foundation, and their political advocacy for the wine industry. These days, Haney is going live on the SCV radio show Vine, Wine & Dine (https://vinewineanddine.blogspot.com), which airs every other Wednesday at The Matheson, and preparing for the Sonoma County Wine Celebration and Auction (https://winecelebration.sonomawine.com) on September 19-21.

Third, we can now proceed with a planned legislative wine reception on November 29 with our colleagues and partners at Wine Institute. More things to be thankful for… WineAmerica Fall Retreat: Thank You, and Welcome! Last week WineAmerica held our annual Fall Retreat in the wine country of Traverse City, Michigan, where Board member Marie Chantal-Dalese of Chateau Chantal served as local coordinator and graciou

Annual report indicates oversupply and lower consumer demand will drive widespread discounting NAPA, Calif. – January 14, 2020 –– Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), the bank of the world’s most innovative companies and their investors, released its 2020 State of the Wine Industry Report today. Now in its 19th year, this authoritative annual report assesses current conditions in the wine industry and provides a unique forecast for the year ahead based on proprietary research and economic and behavioral trends. Highlights and predictions from the 2020 survey and report: Acute oversupply will lead to widespread discounting and present the US wine consumer with the best wine retail values in 20 years. The 2019 harvest will likely produce normal to slightly-below-normal yields in California, and below-normal yields in Oregon and Washington. The lower yields won’t help with the oversupply, however. The large millennial population hasn’t yet begun to
