Bottle360: Redefining DTC Wine Sales Proven Bottom-Line Results The trend toward wine subscriptions and modernized membership formats relies on personalization. That means wineries need to tailor their messaging, pricing and communications to individual wine consumers. Making personalization flexible, is the most sought-after function in Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) programs, but many users find that their software makes it hard to accomplish. Bottle360 is tackling this challenge. “The tools a winery needs to boost new consumer sales and earn repeat orders have to be highly flexible to personalize customer experiences but also match the individuality and uniqueness of each winery,” says Katherine Adams, the CEO and founder of Bottle360. “That is why we focused on developing the right tools that offer versatile ways for the winery to transform how they connect with their potential customers and foster deeper loyalty with existing ones. Our goal is to increa

Keeping up with industry news and trends is one of the most underrated disciplines in beverage alcohol. It’s a frightening habit, admittedly — slowing down long enough to read or at least skim several articles every day when the return on investment takes months or years to materialize. When sales are down, it’s human nature to scrounge for the fastest wins available. In our desperation to keep the lights on, we abandon most eagerly the very practices that would lead to longevity and profitability for our business. The inconvenient timing of these insights — namely, that the best articles and industry reports tend to circulate precisely when everyone has checked out for the holidays —only intensifies the competitive advantage up for grabs by those who are paying attention. An up-to-date understanding of consumer preferences and behavior can inform our production, focus our messaging, and align sales & marketing so that everything from tasting ro

JUNE 28, 2024 – Winners have been announced in the 17th annual Women’s International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWWSC). The competition, which took place June 10-12 in Santa Rosa, Calif., was founded on the premise that the majority of wine purchased for home consumption is bought by women. The IWWSC judging panels consist entirely of professional women in the wine and spirits industries — winemakers, distillers, marketers, buyers, sommeliers, educators and journalists. “As always, the International Women’s Wine & Spirits Competition shined a spotlight on hundreds of deserving wines,” says Debra Del Fiorentino, owner of Wine Competitions Management & Production, which organizes and presents IWWSC. “And even though entry is open to all winemakers regardless of gender, I found it gratifying that six of this year’s sweepstakes wines were created by women. And our overall wine winner also was named Best Woman Winemaker

Daryl Siverly, Laboratory Supervisor - Martinelli Winery & Vineyards Before purchasing the SPICA, we ran all the enzymatics manually, which is horrible since it takes such a long time. We would get results at 4pm on a very busy crush day, when the winemakers require the results around 1:00pm or 12:00pm. Sometimes we would have to re-run samples due to human error or pipetting issues. Therefore, occasionally it would be 5:00pm before we had acceptable results. 2023 crush was the highest tonnage we've ever harvested, with SPICA we had results by 11:00am or 12:00pm. The winemakers were very happy because they had all their results quickly, so they knew what the next production movements would be in a timely manner. That in turn got the work orders quicker to the cellar crew. So, the entire production team was helped by SPICA’s efficiency, accuracy and repeatability. The winemakers are confident in SPICA’s numbers, especially when it pertains to e

The market for yeasts selected to produce sparkling wines, as opposed to that to produce still white wines, is limited and consists of strains with strong fermentation abilities but producing low concentrations of aromatic compounds. Today the market increasingly demands sparkling wines characterized by greater freshness and fruitier sensations than in previous decades. To produce a sparkling wine, a base wine must undergo a second fermentation called prise de mousse (PDM), refermentation or effervescence. This technique requires the preparation of a yeast starter culture (YSC) containing a high amount of yeast cells capable of consuming all the fermentable sugars added to the base wine and transforming them into alcohol and carbon dioxide. The quality of the YSC is crucial for the success of the PDM process, which can take place in a bottle using the traditional method, or in a closed tank, in an autoclave, according to the Charmat or Martinotti method. However, over the
