In the world of logistics and fulfillment, stagnant wine inventory is more than just a space hog—it’s a problem! Whether you’re dealing with seasonal overstock, slow-moving vintages, or excess promotional items, finding creative and effective ways to move inventory is essential. At Copper Peak Logistics, we specialize in helping brands streamline their fulfillment operations, and that includes smart inventory management. Here are some proven strategies to help you clear the shelves and make room for growth. Effective Management of Your Wine Inventory Segment and Analyze Your Wine Inventory Before you act, get clear on what you’re dealing with: ABC Analysis: Categorize inventory by value and velocity—A (high value, fast-moving), B (moderate), C (low value, slow-moving). From a software perspective, Bottled inventory lives in no man’s land. It’s the place where operations software ends and point-of-sale and accounting systems begin. For many wineries, this mirrors the silos within functional teams as well. The winemaking team manages up to a point before it gets turned over to the tasting room staff and finance teams. Handoffs between people and systems are typical points of inefficiency. Put simply, they are areas where it's easy to drop the ball. For wineries, that inefficiency takes the form of wasted time, inability to plan ahead, and lost revenue. Over the last few weeks, two conversations I had with the winery staff stand out in my mind. The first, with a winemaker, discussed how easy it was to lose track of inventory during busy seasons. Staff would move a few cases from the cellar to a tasting room and forget to record it. It really stinks when a club member stops by to pickup their club package, but you sold it to someone else. That’s no way to make a club member feel special. And it’s no way to feel secure about your amazing sales skills. At Activ8 Commerce, we’ve heard this story time and time again, so we did something about it. Activ8 Commerce tracks inventory that is physically on-hand, inventory that is ALLOCATED (already spoken for), and inventory that is available to sell. Not something offered by many other systems. Be sure to ask this question when software shopping. What about inventory flagged for pickup at location #1 but the customer picks it up at location #2? Activ8 Commerce has you covered there as well. We relieve the inventory at location #2 and release allocated inventory back to “available to sell” in location #1 – automatically. Does your system require manual adjustments? Hmmm. That’s a shame
