Supplier Story: Egginox & Domaine Trapet
With summer around the corner and containers of all sorts of vessels including Egginox tanks fresh from Slovenia on the water, the Bouchard Cooperages team wanted to take the time to highlight the special relationship between Egginox and one of their larger Burgundy clients: Domaine Trapet. For any producers still interested in Egginox (500L - 2,500L) it is not too late to add any orders in our containers so please enquire. History Egginox was founded in early 2019 when three Slovenian friends and business partners working in the stainless  steel and wine industry were tasting in a cellar. They were tasting wine from wooden and concrete eggs, and they realized nobody had created a stainless steel egg. The following year was, of course the global pandemic, but during the ensuing lockdown, the three partners started experimenting and finding winery partners. Today Egginox is currently manufactured at Slometal in Nova Gorica, Slovenia which borders Italy and the Friuli wine r

Two Brother's Burgundy Coopers: Tonnellerie Billon & Tonnellerie Damy
With grapes for sparkling and some whites soon on their way, please see a special focus on the two brothers' Burgundy coopers: TONNELLERIE BILLON SA from Beaune managed by Vincent DAMY, and Tonnellerie Damy from Meursault managed by Jérôme DAMY. When it comes to specific barrels for white wines, the BILLON Select and DAMY Exclusive represent an extremely tight grain selection of Allier and Vosges staves with proprietary toast levels ranging between Light Long, and Medium. Because of the extremely tight grain selection, these barrels work best for longer aging and powerful white wines. When it comes to forest-origin barrels, Allier, Vosges, Jura, and Acacia perform extremely well. Allier is structural-driven and provides grilled bread, brioche, spiciness, and popery aromas. Vosges is more mineral and tension driven and provides floral, chamomile, and honey aromas. Jura is texturally driven and provides fresh alpine aromas. Acacia (not oak) does not have tannin therefore

Côte d'Or" Translated in English to the "Golden Slope
228L Burgundy Export Barrel represents an hommage to 100% French oak sourced only from the Côte D'Or département located within the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The BILLON Cooperage located in Beaune France produces this barrel with 3-Y Air Dry French Oak sourced from the forests of Chatillon and Cîteaux. BILLON's *Subtil steam bending process is used to finish the barrel that is then available in different toast profiles. By sourcing oak only from Burgundy’s Côte D'Or department, transport costs are reduced from the forests to the cooperage's "parque à bois" to create a style of barrique with a true Burgundian identity and spirit for your chardonnays and pinot noirs. And YES, just like for BILLON's Richelieu, Acacia, and *Subtil barrels, it comes with painted (this time GOLDEN) rivets to help make it easier to identify in your cellar.

Deciding Picking Dates for Grapes in a Changing Climate
Unstable weather is making it increasingly hard to decide picking dates for grapes. We caught up with leading winemakers from Australia, France and the UK to find out how earlier harvests are impacting on grape quality. Having always been at the mercy of Mother Nature, winemakers are acutely aware of the impact climate change is having on their livelihoods. Temperatures aren’t only rising, weather patterns are becoming increasingly erratic and extreme, and incidents of devastating wildfires, floods, droughts and late spring frosts are becoming more commonplace in the world’s leading wine-growing regions. In 2021, France was besieged by a cocktail of climate catastrophes, from destructive spring frosts and raging wildfires to violent hail storms. The April frosts across swathes of French vineyard land were particularly brutal, resulting in losses of up to EUR 2 billion. Yields across France hit historic lows in 2021, down 30% on average, though losses were far worse in many

Meet Sébastien Marquet: Bucher Vaslin North America’s New Sales Manager in the Pacific Northwest!
Sebastien Marquet grew up in Burgundy, France where some of his best memories were spent working alongside his grandfather in the vineyard. Sebastien was greatly inspired by his grandfather’s way of life, which led him to pursue winemaking at an early age.  At fourteen years old Sebastien attended Lycée Viticole et Oenologue de Beaune in Burgundy where he received his degree in Oenologie & Viticulture. He, then, pursued his certificate in the Wine and Spirits trade at CFPPA Macon Davaye to learn about the sales and marketing side of the wine industry. Through the 90’s, Sebastien worked as a winemaker in Burgundy and later moved to Southern France to explore growing different varieties. With a new love for the sea and sailing, Sebastien went to Martinique where he researched and adapted new grape varieties, grafting techniques and trellis systems, and produced the first wine in the Caribbean. After eight years in the Caribbean, Sebastien was ready for his nex
