In 1989, we began as an artisanal etching and painting studio in Napa Valley and many of our etch artists have been a part of the BERGIN family since those early days.

Today, we are one of the oldest and largest etching companies on the West Coast. Through a commitment to the success of our clients, as well as the talent and dedication of our team, BERGIN continues to be recognized within the industry for our unparalleled quality, creativity in wine bottle decorating, and excellent customer service.

We believe etching is the most authentic and artistic way to commemorate your brand. From standout gifts, awards and celebrations to specialty wine club or tasting room offerings, etching transforms a bottle of wine into a keepsake item, meant to be displayed proudly.

HANDMADE FROM START TO FINISH

What does the process of etching actually entail?

Just like any other label method, etching starts with design. After translating your vision into etchable artwork and sampling as needed, we make individual masks  that act as a stencil in order to carve millimeters into the glass.

We use a traditional sand blasting method to create impressions in the glass, giving hand etched bottles a luxurious tactility and definition. This process allows bottle designs to be raised and for logos and brand names to truly stand out.

While etching requires meticulous attention to detail, it produces an unparalleled texture and contrast that no other process can match.

A WORK OF ART

Once etched, every single element of your design is hand-painted by one of our master artists.

We fondly refer to our paint artists as “the best art forgers in the business,” as each bottle is a one-of-a-kind work of art with slight variations across each bottle.

Our team of designers and artists is able to capture even the most imaginative and colorful designs. There are nearly no limitations when it comes to etching!  We take your label inspiration, be it your paper label designs, a cherished photo, or a piece of original art, and completely translate it into “Bottle Art” from scratch.

We use a combination of specialty process enamel paints for fine detail and intricate paint work. For large areas requiring consistent and even coverage, we use various spray paint brands that are applied via airbrushing.

In order to perfectly match the colors on your existing labels, we create a wide variety of custom paint mixes and formulas that are uniquely yours.

While we can etch bottles as small as 750ml, large format bottles have more real estate to work with making them the perfect canvas for etching. From 1.5 liters to 27 liters, we do it all!

What's more?

Etching is a cold process, which means our artists can work on a filled product up to 6L in size. Our etch studio is also temperature controlled allowing us to work on bottles any time of day.

When working on full bottles, we never expose them to temperatures higher than 66°F, making the process ideal for finishing large format shiners in a way that feels incredibly intentional and special.
