On Monday, October 22, 2018, the Paradise Ridge Winery reconstruction project kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony held at the site of the popular winery, which burned down in the Tubbs fire after 24 years as a beloved Sonoma County wedding, gathering and wine tasting venue. The following day, Wright Contracting, the general contractor hired by the Byck family, owners of Paradise Ridge Winery, commenced construction.

Cakebread Cellars is known for its world‐class setting, wines, culinary events and hospitality experience. The North Addition and renovation expands the winery’s hospitality program, production and administrative areas, maintaining its distinctive character while creating new ways to celebrate its rich history. A reception building better accommodates daily visitors, welcoming guests with a gallery display featuring the history of the winery and the wine‐making process. Off the main visitor center, a dedicated retail space offers wine and winery merchandise.  

East of the visitor center, expanded offices, inventory, and production spaces improve day‐to‐day operations and provide support to management, sales personnel, and wine educators. The addition also provides space for a new bottling line and press. These spaces define a new North Court, the south side of which is created by the existing winery building, which provides additional event and gathering space. 

The renovation of the old tank and barrel rooms, along with existing offices, allow for much needed updates to existing infrastructure. An upstairs storage room and bottling line were converted into 3 new tasting rooms and a service area. A new hallway connects the tank room and the new bottling line. The old barrel room now accommodates new concrete tanks and 2 new tasting rooms. To the blank, a gallery connects the north and south courts, while the old tank room is updated for large tasting groups. The existing office and storage wine now has expanded offices and three new tasting rooms. 

These new indoor and outdoor spaces allow visitors to see, understand, and celebrate the winemaking process. Each tasting room offers a unique view from harvest to fermentation to bottling, offering a space for both wine education and tasting.

Excitement grows as the completion date gets closer and we continue to see progress at the Bouchaine Vineyards Hospitality project. The project includes a new 5,000 sq. ft. hospitality facility that will hold the tasting room, numerous offices, dining area, and commercial kitchen. Adding a modern and sophisticated touch to the design is the use of reclaimed materials. Redwood from old wine barrels has created beautiful vertical shade fins on the exterior and will also be incorporated into the tasting bar and fireplace mantel. Combined with sunshine and delicious wine, this will be the perfect place to enjoy the summer. 

A few days of sunshine in March brought forth exciting views of the swift reconstruction progress at Paradise Ridge Winery, a popular visit for many that burned down in the Tubbs Fire. Since opening in 1994, the winery provided outstanding wines, amazing terrace views, and the perfect location for Wine Country events. The reconstruction is expected to be complete in the Fall of 2019, close to one year after breaking ground in Fall of 2018. The new facility will feature innovative design elements and materials to improve the site’s safety and fire resistance, while retaining the look of the original winery.

Mark Davis has officially announced his retirement as President of Wright Contracting, a leading commercial construction firm based in Santa Rosa, after nearly four decades with the company, including more than 15 at the helm. Davis, who joined the company in 1986 fresh out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, has been a pivotal figure in the growth and success of Wright Contracting, helping it evolve into one of the premier construction firms in the region. His decision to retire marks the end of an era for Wright Contracting, but it also signals the beginning of a new chapter for both Davis and the company.

A Legacy of Excellence

Under Davis's leadership, Wright Contracting experienced substantial growth, securing high-profile projects and maintaining a reputation for quality, reliability, and innovation in the construction industry. Known for his hands-on, direct approach, Davis was deeply involved in every facet of the business, from managing client relationships to overseeing major project developments. His leadership was instrumental in building lasting relationships with key clients and partners, ensuring the company’s position at the forefront of the construction industry in the North Bay. Davis credits much of his success to the trust and confidence that previous Wright leaders Jay Wirght, Mike Wright and Sid Lipton showed in him, that allowed his growth and to establish his own identity and reputation.

“Mark has been the backbone of our company for so long. His vision and dedication have shaped Wright Contracting,” said Stephen Wright, CEO and Co-Owner of Wright Contracting. “We’ll miss his leadership, but we’re grateful for everything he’s done to prepare the company continued success.”

The Next Chapter

After retiring from Wright, Mark plans to take some time off, do more hunting, some traveling, and spend time with his 6 grandchildren here and in Nashville. “While I am closing my almost 40-year chapter with Wright, I don’t foresee myself fully retiring, as I am not a sit around type of guy.  I will find something else to do, it’s just time for me to move on and let the new generation run the company without me over their shoulder”.

As Davis embarks on this next phase of life, Wright Contracting looks ahead with optimism and anticipation, poised to build upon the strong foundation he helped create. The company remains committed to its core values of integrity, quality, and excellence. Mark Davis’s retirement, while marking the end of a significant chapter, also represents a testament to his enduring contributions and the continued success of Wright Contracting.

The Paraduxx Winery hospitality expansion and renovation project encompassed the addition of a VIP tasting room, a full commercial kitchen, guest restroom facilities and office space for winery staff. Renovated spaces within the existing facility include hospitality areas, tasting rooms, a service pantry for food prep and restrooms. The project also included extensive landscaping, a food truck court, trellises, turf, pavers, walkways and an expanded and repaved parking lot.

The project was completed on an aggressive schedule to welcome guests by the Summer of 2025. During the project, Wright worked closely with winery staff to ensure that there were no disruptions to operations or the guest experience, by carefully coordinating all construction activities, traffic and guest flow.

The Foley Family Community Pavilion, the future home of the Healdsburg Farmers’ Market, is being built on the site of a former fruit packing warehouse in downtown Healdsburg, originally constructed in 1921. 

As the project kicks off, the building is being stripped down to it’s historic metal structure. Every single rivet in the trusses needs to be replaced with high strength bolts. Can you guess how many? Find the answer in the last image.

Markham Vineyards is one of Napa Valley’s oldest continuously operated wineries. Wright Contracting has been working with the Markham Vineyards team since the late 1980's when we built the original Winery & Visitor Center. 

Our most recent project encompassed a beautiful modernization of a number of spaces, while maintaining the history of the winery. For this project, Markham vineyards turned to the renowned Matt Hollis Architects to reimagine the existing first floor tasting room with modern finishes and a new light, bright & airy feel. A renovation of the upstairs office area includes modern technology and a new layout to inspire employee collaboration.

We also completely transformed the stone cellar, first built in 1879 and previously used for barrel storage. Part of the cellar is now a second tasting area where guests will gain unique insight into the heritage of Markham Vineyards. A 2-story glass partition divides the cellar space, with half being used for the new tasting area and half continuing to be used for barrel storage. The entry to the winery has also been completely revamped to further enhance the guest experience. New planting and hardscape welcomes guests into a third area, which provides for a unique, open-air tasting experience.

The Ink Grade tasting room brings the history and fullness of the storied Howell Mountain Estate to the Valley Floor. The unassuming entry gives way series of finely tuned tasting experiences. The focal point of the main tasting space is a giant boulder harvested from the Ink Grade Estate which we fitted with a beautiful wood top and serves as a gathering space for arrivals and departures. The diversity of tasting experiences is highlighted by The Senses Room which is a black box tasting experience with 360 projection that brings the visitor into the vineyards as they taste through the wine offerings. Outdoor tastings are punctuated by a beautiful Pizza oven and finely appointed landscaping. All interior spaces were renovated and elevated to meet the beauty and charter of the Ink Grade brand.

Have you visited the Brendel Tasting Room? If not, it’s time to check it out! The new tasting room is located in a historic building in downtown Napa. 

Construction of the Brendel Tasting Room involved both a cosmetic renovation of the historic building, as well as a full MEP design-build execution. Renovations to the historic space included a number of unique details such as neon lighting, timber counters and lime wash paint, which were completed perfectly to align with Brendel’s high quality profile. The space is bright, open and inviting and, with it’s unique corner window, allows visitors to experience the feel of the historic downtown, while enjoying Brendel’s wines.
